The word "prophet" comes from the word naba which means "from high place"; therefore the 'in the high' should have a vision to a distant place (future prediction) called nubuwwah.
The Prophets may convey the revelation he received but had no obligation to a particular community or a particular region. Meanwhile, the word "apostle" comes from the word risala meaning delivery. Therefore, the apostles, after being first appointed as prophets, served to convey revelation with the obligation of a certain people or territory. Of all the Prophets, Muhammad as the 'Closing Prophet' who received the official title in the Holy Qur'an is the only one whose obligations cover the people and the region of the entire universe 'Rahmatan lil Alamin'.
Belief in the prophets and the apostles is the fourth pillar of faith in Islam.
